School or Rock – Day 2 – Basics and Foundations

SUMMARY

Write your daily summary last, at the end of the day here… Only one to two sentences.

CLASSROOM

Music theory is a language. The more you practice and use it, the easier it becomes. Sounds are vibrations. The speed and frequency of the vibrations creates the notes. A key is the home base for the scales. A scale starts and ends on a root note. A major scales pattern is whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, and half. To name notes in a scale, you start at the root, and continue alphabetically (A-G). The same goes for naming the notes numerically (1-9). Cords are multiple notes played at the same time. Triad cords are cords with three notes, a root, third and fifth. A triad major cord is 4 semi tones apart between the first two notes, and 3 semi tones apart between the second and last note (that’s the pattern, 4 then 3 is major, 3 to 4 is a minor). The first six triad of a major scale is major, minor, minor, major, major, and minor. Thinking about scale degrees (1-9) instead of letter names can help change the key much easier. Inversions are when you change the position of one or more cords (inverted). This could make the song easier to play and sound better. For melody’s, try to use the major pentatonic scale.

Soundtrap is really similar to garage band and logic. They all have the same kind of set up, and functions. The lay out of sound trap was easy to understand. The regions were almost exactly the same as the regions in garage band and logic. I found the automation button was interesting. I’ve always wondered if someone could crescendo using the programs keyboard, and you can. one difference I did notice is soundtrap counts an extra measure compared to garage band and logic that only counts one measure,

WHAT I LEARNED and PROBLEMS I SOLVED

Tell your daily story here!  Highlight what you learned and enjoyed most.  Also, share what you needed to do to complete the day’s work. Problem-solving is one of the most important skills you need in life. Employers want to know HOW you get stuff done as much as what you got done.
